at cal with a look at what's behind the ban. reporter: students here at uc berkeley say that they really enjoy the holidays but they say they don't want the salvationy army to be any part of it elm student government passed a resolution banning the charity from bell-ringing, from actually collecting any type of donations on campus because they say they are allegedly antigay. discriminating allegedly against gay and lesbian persons in their soup kitchens, offcampus, and trying to prevent federal funding from going to lbgt causes. while students here on campus have mixed feelings about that. >> always support the salvation army. i didn't know they were antigay, homophobics. >> donating to the salvation army sun -- doesn't mean you're prejudiced against gays and lesbians. just means you want to help people. reporter: in a statement salvation army says it believes all people are equal regardless of sexual oren addition and say, we firmly oppose the mistreatment of lgbt persons. salvation army told me by phone that it does not do any bell-ringing on campus or anywhere without permission. stud

's anti-gay. we are joined live from u.c. berkeley where some students are raising those concerns. >> that's right, carolyn. some students say the salvation army is anti-gay so they don't want the charity on their campus and they don't want their fellow students supporting it. it's actually a push by the student senate that bans the bell ringers on the campus this holiday season. that's after they accused them of discriminating against gay and lesbians in their shelter. last summer an official with the charity told a talk show that according to scripture, gays must die. now students here want two closing donation boxes removed from in front of a campus dorm. cal students we spoke with have mixed reaction to the proposed ban. >> it doesn't mean i always send stuff to the salvation army, we've been kind of supportive of that but i didn't know they were anti-gay or homophobic so that's makes it questionable. >> donating to the salvation army doesn't mean your prejudiced against gays and lesbians, it just means you want to help people. >> in a statement to abc7 news, the charity says, quote, t

of a controversy at uc berkeley. cal students are calling for a ban of the salvation army on campus, after allegations of being insensitive to lesbians and transgenders surfaced online. student leaders passed a billow posing the organization. university officials are considering a campus-wide ban of the group. the salvation army denies all of those allegations in recent statements. >>> funeral services are being held this weekend for two teenage girls shot to death in east oakland. 15-year-old raquel gerstel and 16-year-old bobby sartain were best friends. they were shot two weeks ago near brooke dale park. police have not made any arrests. services for raquel happen today at 11:00 this morning at cooper's mortuary on fruitvale avenue. >>> the man accused of killing sierra lamar will be arraign order new charges tomorrow. antolin garcia-torres has now been accused of three other attempted kidnappings. the 21-year-old was charged last month in connection to those assaults. the incidents took place back in 2009, all in safeway parking lots. garcia-torres was employed at the safeway in morgan
